Humboldt Transit Authority Upgrades Buses with UTG Digital Media Displays in Eureka, California
The Humboldt Transit Authority (HTA) in Eureka, California, has successfully upgraded its fleet of over 30 transit buses by adding state-of-the-art digital displays from UTG Digital Media (UTG). These 32-inch, all-in-one, plug-and-play high-brightness DC-powered digital vertical displays are set to revolutionize passenger information delivery.
The new digital displays have been installed on various services, including HTA’s Eureka Transit Service (ETS), Redwood Transit System (RTS), Arcata and Mad River Transit System (A&MRTS), as well as the Southern Humboldt Intercity and Willow Creek buses.
Features of the New Digital Displays
Equipped with GPS tracking and advanced passenger data analytics, these screens offer a range of innovative features. They automatically adjust to surrounding light conditions, ensuring optimal visibility at all times. Key functionalities include:
- Real-Time Travel Information: Passengers can access up-to-the-minute arrival times for upcoming stops.
- Connection and Schedule Updates: Timely information about bus connections and schedules keeps travelers informed.
- Local Weather and News: Displays provide current weather forecasts and relevant news updates.
- Service Alerts: Important safety and service alerts will be communicated to passengers promptly.
- Advertising Opportunities: The screens can also serve as platforms for advertisements, providing additional revenue streams for the transit authority.
With these enhancements, HTA is committed to improving the overall transit experience for its passengers while embracing modern technology to facilitate better communication and information sharing.
"At UTG, we are constantly investing in digital signage innovation, as it allows us to develop technology tools that can transform any service or space into a more dynamic, green and innovative environment, as is the case with public transportation," said Alan Wehbe, founder, and CEO of UTG Digital Media. Versatile UTG Digital Displays Enhance Passenger Experience for Humboldt Transit Authority
UTG Digital Media’s innovative digital displays come in various sizes, ensuring a perfect fit for any installation area. These advanced systems allow for easy uploading of videos, graphics, or text, seamlessly integrating with existing passenger information. The all-in-one design eliminates the need for additional equipment, such as USB sticks or laptops, making content updates straightforward and efficient.
Real-Time Updates and Remote Management
Content updates to the displays can be made in real-time through a remote Wi-Fi connection from the Humboldt Transit Authority (HTA) headquarters, enhancing the flow of information for passengers. Greg Pratt, HTA General Manager, emphasizes the positive impact of these displays, stating, “We were looking to improve the delivery of information on our buses, and UTG’s on-board digital displays have allowed us to take an incredible leap forward in communication with our passengers. The UTG team has been extremely easy to work with—knowledgeable, professional, and helpful.”
Safety Features for Drivers and Passengers
To prioritize safety, the UTG digital system can turn on and off automatically, requiring no interaction from the vehicle operator or passengers. It is programmed to activate when the vehicle ignition is turned on and to power down when the key is removed. Additionally, users can pre-set the display to control the frequency of each slide or video message.
User-Friendly Content Management System
UTG’s robust online content management system (CMS) enables users to create and manage content remotely. With intuitive functionality via widgets, users can easily upload and edit multimedia content, ensuring that passengers receive timely and relevant information. The CMS is designed to be reliable, secure, and exceptionally user-friendly, making it an ideal solution for transit authorities looking to enhance their communication strategies.
With these advancements, the Humboldt Transit Authority is poised to significantly improve the passenger experience while leveraging cutting-edge technology for effective information delivery.
